The Ageless Playbook

The Legend’s Playbook: Why Age Groups Don’t Matter (And What Does).

Want to know the REAL secret to coaching people over 50?

It's not what most coaches think.

We love putting people in boxes, right?

"Oh, you're 65? Here's your program!"

But here's the truth - age is just ONE piece of the puzzle.

Let's get real about what ACTUALLY matters...

Movement History Matters More Than Birth Certificates!

You might have a 55-year-old former athlete who moves better than some 30-year-olds. Then there's the 68-year-old who just started exercising last year.

HUGE difference!

Here's what you NEED to look at:

Exercise History (Quality over Years):

  • Former athletes need reminders to scale back - their mind writes checks their body can't cash!
  • Office workers who've never trained? Start with basic movement patterns. Make it FUN.
  • Weekend warriors need balance - usually strong in one area, weak in others
  • Ex-gym goers? Rebuild confidence first, capacity second

Recent Activity Levels Tell the REAL Story:

  • Active gardeners often have decent grip strength but need core work
  • Desk workers? Focus on mobility before anything else
  • Regular walkers? Great base to build from - add strength progressively
  • Sedentary? Start with 5-10 minute movement snacks

Those Injury Stories? They Matter MORE Than You Think:

  • Old sports injuries need extra warm-up time
  • Surgery sites want gradual loading
  • Chronic pain needs patience and alternatives
  • "Nothing serious" usually means "I've been ignoring things"

Current Life Demands Drive Your Programming:

  • Full-time workers need quick, efficient sessions
  • Grandparent duties? Focus on functional movement patterns
  • Retirees often have time but need energy management
  • Carers need stress relief AND strength work

But here's the magic sauce...

It's all about their GOALS!

Some of your Legends want to climb mountains at 70.

Others just want to play with their grandkids without pain.

And you know what? Both are PERFECTLY valid!

The real differentiation isn't about age - it's about CAPACITY and CONFIDENCE.

Here's Your Confidence-Building Playbook:

  1. Start with what they CAN do
  2. Add ONE new thing each session
  3. Celebrate small wins LOUDLY
  4. Inspire them to share their journey with family and friends
  5. Document progress with photos/videos

Master These Basics First:

  • Hip hinge before deadlift
  • Step-ups before box jumps
  • Band pull-aparts before ring rows
  • Box push-ups before bench press

Remember: Every Legend has their own story.

Your job?

Help them write the next chapter!

You got this!

You've positioned it right, built the programme for the physiology, and hired someone with the character to actually care. That's three stages, and most coaches would call it done. It isn't. None of it keeps someone training with you in year three if the fourth stage...
