The Ageless Playbook

The qualification you think you need before coaching over-50s

Most coaches I talk to want the same thing.

Fewer clients, better clients, work that means something. And most of them have noticed the same opportunity: the biggest demographic shift in history is happening right under their noses, and almost nobody is serving it well.

So why don't they have a 50+ programme yet?

Nearly every time, the answer is some version of this: "I need to learn more first."

Another course.
Another certification.
More study on ageing joints and bone density before they feel allowed to put their hand up.

I've spent 15 years coaching clients over 50, and the last 7 coaching the coaches who work with them. So believe me when I tell you: knowledge is not what's standing between you and this market.

Here's the uncomfortable truth about knowledge in 2026.

Anyone can generate a decent 12-week programme for a 58-year-old with a dodgy knee in about thirty seconds, free.

The information is everywhere. If knowledge were the product, we'd all be finished.

What can't be downloaded is the thing clients over 50 actually stay for.

I know because I watched it happen in my own numbers. There was a period where my average client retention was 4.1 months, with 42% gone by the three-month mark.

Then I changed how I built the relationship, starting with the very first conversation, and average retention went to 2.6 years.

Same exercise library. Same qualifications. Same me.

That's the method I've never taught as one complete thing until now.

On Wednesday, 29 July (Thursday morning the 30th here in NZ), I'm running a live 90-minute workshop called The Relational Coaching Method.

It covers the first conversation structure that predicts, with about 90% accuracy, whether someone stays three months or three years. The 90/10 rule most coaches get backwards in the first session. The check-in question that tells you more than any movement screen. And how to position yourself as the trusted specialist that clients over 50 refer their friends to.

If you've been waiting until you know enough to start working with this market, this workshop is the permission slip. You can begin with the clients and the knowledge you already have.

It's live, and the real value is in the Q+A session at the end.

$79 USD.

P.S. On Thursday, I'll tell you about Linda. One first conversation, no movement screen, no sales pitch. She signed up, stayed three years, and brought me three more clients. That conversation is the method in miniature.

Start with the First Conversation.

Your gym is full of people who want to go as hard as possible. You know you have more to give.

You’re learning to coach, and nobody has shown you how to coach someone two or three times your age.

You've positioned it right, built the programme for the physiology, and hired someone with the character to actually care. That's three stages, and most coaches would call it done. It isn't. None of it keeps someone training with you in year three if the fourth stage...
